Get to know our Client Account Executive Gavin Cowan, who shares some tip bidding tips for 2018 and what he enjoys the most about working for an award winning company!
Tell us about your role
I am responsible for building relationships with new and existing clients. This involves identifying new client leads, business opportunities for existing clients, maintenance of our CRM system, some business development activities and networking.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Identifying new business opportunities for clients. Being able to have a positive impact on our clients future while growing the relationship with AM Bid Services is very rewarding.
Do you have a career highlight and if so, what?
Joining AM Bid Services. I had been in IBM for almost six years since leaving school and had no experience working elsewhere, so it was a big decision for me. Thankfully I have no regrets about leaving IBM and am delighted with my decision!
What’s your background?
I joined IBM straight from school in 2012 on a Higher Apprenticeship Scheme in Supply Chain Management. This involved three month rotations with all the end to end teams within the IBM Hardware (System X) supply chain. Upon completion of the apprenticeship scheme I joined IBM’s Bid Support Team as a Bid Writer working on multimillion dollar opportunities across all IBM products before becoming a Team Lead in the Software Group Appliances team.
What’s the best thing about working in the bidding industry?
The reward of winning a contract for our clients. There is always a clear goal for each bid and winning a contract justifies all the work and effort put in throughout the process.
What’s your top bidding tip for 2018?
Ensure all aspects of the question are answered fully.
Which company/sector would you like to work with in?
I love the diversity of all the different sectors we are working in, no two days are the same!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I have played rugby for my local team since I was eight years old. It’s a good way to catch up with friends and socialise at the weekend.
